Can You Stop Your Dog Or Puppy From Barking Incessantly?OK, so the scenario goes as follows, you let you dog or puppy out for their morning washroom relief and like clockwork, they start barking.  You run outside because maybe someone is trying to break into your house or there is an unwanted animal in your yard.  Each time you go out, the dog is still barking but you have yet to be able to figure out what it is that he is barking at. You need to first determine the reasons for the barking and then implement some positive dog training.

Let’s look at some of the reasons that dogs bark and then look for answers regarding how to minimize it.

Why Do Dogs Or Puppies Bark?There could be many reasons as to why your dog would want to bark but the following 4 could be considered the most common.

Come on, throw me the ball again!4. Frustration barking – If your animal ever gets confused, upset and nervous or just plain frustrated, it may start barking because it just doesn’t like how it feels at the present moment.5. Boredom barking – OK, we’ve all probably heard this one, the dog is left inside for the day or even out in the yard as the household goes to work or to school.  It may be fine for the first little bit but after that the dog wants to play with someone and gets bored.  With boredom sets in, the dog lets the entire neighbourhood know that he is not happy.

So as stated previously, the majority of the time a dog or puppy is barking is because of the 5 reasons stated above.  Usually these can be fixed fairly quickly if you’ve figured out the why part. All that is left is for some positive dog training or to implement some puppy training tips.

As The Doctor Would Say……Many owners, when faced with this constant scenario of barking for no apparent reason, they may stick their heads out the door and start YELLING at their dog to stop.  Unfortunately this is rarely effective since you are only treating the symptom or in other words the physical action of barking.  You are not actually trying to determine the reason why your dog is barking.  The best thing you can do is to find and eliminate the reason and both you and your dog will be much happier.

There may be times when short burst of barking is alright, for example when someone knocks on your door.  They key is to allow only a very short burst and then to train the dog to stop barking.  If we look at our reasons above, they are probably giving you an “Alert” bark.  All you need to do at this point is to reassure your dog or puppy that all is well and end the barking.

So to sum it all up, you dog or puppy communicates to you through their barking.  Whether it is to warn you or to just tell you to get your lazy hide off the couch and come play, it will bark until it receives what it is looking for.  If you analyze the situation, you can usually see almost immediately, the reason and take eliminate the problem and not the symptom.  Good Luck.
